The Smart Religion app requires citizens to register for government approval before attending church. Locals are forbidden to post religious content online, and church leaders are being watched very intently.
The Chinese church maintains greater secrecy by decreasing the size of underground gatherings. This raises the need for more leaders to effectively decentralize the church without losing the quality of the teaching that Christians receive.
World Compassion is hosting a leadership conference for these Chinese pastors. Due to the increased monitoring by the Chinese government, we have to host this in another, safer location outside of mainland China.
We are flying out 50 core leaders to attend this conference where they will have the opportunity to worship freely together and a chance to be refreshed.
These leaders are responsible for training up the next generation of believers and many of 4,000+ ABC students in China and Myanmar.
This is our most pressing need: to have all 50 key leaders attend this conference in November. The cost to send one pastor is $1,500 (£1,176). For all 50 core leaders, the cost will be roughly $75,000 (£58,800).
