A New Year in China

On January 27th the people of China began a week-long celebration of the Chinese New Year. It’s a time of festivals when people return to their hometowns and reconnect with family - setting off fireworks, decorating with red lanterns, exchanging gifts and attending lion and dragon dances.

On January 27th the people of China began a week-long celebration of the Chinese New Year. It’s a time of festivals when people return to their hometowns and reconnect with family – setting off fireworks, decorating with red lanterns, exchanging gifts and attending lion and dragon dances.

It’s also a time for us to celebrate with 428 new graduates who completed our ABC discipleship training course in China in the last quarter of 2016. That’s 428 potential candidates to go help lead a new house church in China!

You may know that ABC is our over 300 lesson, Bible teaching, discipleship and leadership training curriculum we use not only in China but also in Myanmar. Many of these graduates in China are now equipped to help their churches lead house church groups.

With thousands of people coming to Christ every day across China (some experts believe 15,000 people come to Jesus daily) ABC is critical to disciple new believers and equip leaders to help guide and disciple them.

The Chinese church needs our help to provide ABC to train up new leaders  who will shepherd the immensely growing church.

We recently met with one of our regional coordinators in China who oversees several hundred of our ABC Bible training students in the country. He is a young Chinese man who we call Paul. Paul is passionate about the work World Compassion is doing in China and is introducing new pastors to ABC all the time. In our talk with him, he energetically shared his excitement – about the impact ABC is making.

He had been meeting with several pastors and asked me, “When can we provide these new pastors with ABC?” He communicated how much they need this material now!

You can help! It costs only $114 to sponsor a student so they can receive all of the help needed to grow through this two-year training. Our overall goal is to enroll 1,000 new students to reach and disciple new believers within the nation of China. We need to raise $30,000 in the next 30 to 45 days to initiate the printing of the curriculum for these new students.
