Explanation is key in creating understanding. Jesus taught that without understanding, the evil one snatches the seed that was planted — preventing it from producing fruit in our lives. The seed is His Word. Jesus continues with this…The seed on the rocky soil represents those who hear the message and immediately receive it with joy. But since they don’t have deep roots, they don’t last long. They fall away as soon as they have problems or are persecuted for believing God’s word…The seed that fell on good soil represents those who truly hear and understand God’s word and produce a harvest of thirty, sixty, or even a hundred times as much as had been planted!

I’m a lawn guy. Having a nice lawn that is well manicured is important for me! That being said, earlier this year, I experienced some frustration and defeat in my landscaping endeavors.

The grass I had planted in a bare area started growing and looked good on the outside, but I quickly realized that it hadn’t properly taken root after we experienced a few days of spiking temperatures.

It got me thinking about the soil of our souls and the consequences of not being properly rooted during times of ‘heat.’ Times when your spirit is stirred while reading the Word or in your prayer times are often moments when God is sowing a seed in your life.

I encourage you not to rush along but take the time to get understanding. Study, pray, listen and write down what you feel God speaking to you.

Let the seed get rooted deeply in your heart where it creates life-changing impact.

Transformation in our lives comes from God’s Word being understood in our minds and taking root in the soil of our heart.

The pressures of life will come. Persecution will come. The “heat of life” is real. The depth in which we are rooted in God’s Word determines the way we will get through it.

This reality is especially true in nations hostile to the Gospel. The Gospel is good news…but the Gospel alone without discipleship isn’t enough.

This is why World Compassion puts an emphasis on training and discipleship.

Through conferences, our ABC discipleship and leadership curriculum, as well as our mission training program we equip the Church all across China and Myanmar with greater understanding of the Word of God.

This is how we disciple nations!
