That’s roughly 3.4 billion people according to the Joshua Project.
The majority, 96.6% of these people, live in the 10/40 Window – about 3.2 billion people.
Yet for every $1 Christians give, less than $.01 goes to reaching unreached people. (via Mission Frontiers)
I share this not to condemn or to try to pull people away from giving to other church causes but to give perspective. (I personally give to other Christian works that do not target this region).
What I find motivating, hopefully you do too, is that four of the five countries World Compassion works in are in the 10/40 Window – Iran, Iraq, China, and Myanmar. China and Iran are specifically both in the top 10 unreached nations of the world.
Roughly 60% of the countries within the 10/40 Window are closed to Western missionaries. It’s a significant reason why they remain unreached.
World Compassion’s focus on empowering the Church within unreached and restricted nations is one way we overcome this. Not only do we believe this is the best model for sustainable ministry that will naturally grow and multiply, it’s critical in reaching the unreached.
I share all of this information to help paint a picture and encourage you in the important work we are a part of together. The opportunity to reach people with the love of God and the gift of Jesus in restricted nations is massive! Every year Christmas presents one of those opportunities.
World Compassion teams in countries like Iran, Iraq, Myanmar, China, and even Cuba are preparing right now for our Christmas outreaches – reaching some of the 42% of people who have never heard of Him!
Right now we are working to acquire food for families and toys for kids that will be paired with our booklet The Story of Jesus and a Bible. These Christmas gifts will be given by our local church partners.
Thousands of families in these countries will find themselves in economic hardship or politically displaced as the holiday comes. While we may be humming along to ‘there’s no place like home for the holidays,’ many of these families will be internally displaced – having left their homes, seeking refuge and safety from an ongoing war.
The goal is to reach over 2,100 families in nations hostile to the Gospel this Christmas.
Our salon skills instructor had six ISIS survivors in her class. These women received a Christmas package and were invited to church for a Christmas celebration. All six of them gave their life to Christ through the relationship they built with our instructor. One of the women shared that she continually had miscarriages and had severe bleeding. After the team ministered and prayed with her, she got healed! She is now pregnant and waiting for her baby.
Another one of these ladies witnessed ISIS kill her family. She ran away with her sister, but her sister was captured. She became mentally ill when she arrived in the refugee camp and hated anyone with a beard. After Christmas, our instructor visited with her regularly and prayed for her. She began reading the Bible on her own and is free from her fear of people.
Your financial support to World Compassion empowers our outreaches so teams can share about Jesus and set people free! These are just two examples of the authentic life transformations happening among the thousands of people we serve.
As we move toward the end of the year, many people plan for a special year-end offering. I want to ask that you consider World Compassion as a part of your giving plans.
Most of our ministry programs are targeted at nations in the 10/40 Window. You can reach unreached people in places where the Global Church has the greatest opportunity but the least amount of resources.
Your partnership with World Compassion connects your personal impact to the frontlines of God’s mission. Every Bible you send, leader you help train, student you help teach, family you help feed, or church you help plant is moving the Gospel forward – often into unreached territories.
Your gift sends a missionary to the unreached – impacting thousands this Christmas with the message of Jesus.
