I lived in Damascus and made a modest living in computer repair. When Assad began killing civilians and covering up the story, my friends and I stepped out to tell the real story of the war. We contacted an international news agency and used our computers through Skype to send video footage of the massacres of civilians to the outside world.
One of my friends was captured and tortured by Assad’s regime until he gave up my name. I worry if my friend is still alive. I left my business, home and family to flee to the refugee camps in Northern Iraq. I fear for my life and grieve for my people. Maybe someone will help me back onto my feet so that I can help my country.
