How the Local Church Is Rebuilding Lives in Iraq’s Refugee Camps
Across Iraq’s refugee camps, families are rebuilding life after years of conflict. In places where faith is costly and opportunity is scarce, transformation is taking root through practical compassion, long-term commitment, and the power of the local church.
This is not emergency relief alone.
It is discipleship and practical training that rebuilds lives from the inside out.
When the Church is empowered, discipleship multiplies and communities rebuild.
For decades, World Compassion has partnered with local churches in nations hostile to the Gospel. We do not work around the church; we work through it.
When local believers are equipped to serve their own communities, transformation becomes sustainable, relational, and multiplied.
This is the model we follow:
This is not a short-term intervention. It is long-term Gospel presence.
* Faces concealed to protect local believers.
Nora is a local believer who began serving women inside Iraq’s refugee camps through vocational training. She was not trying to start a movement. She was simply serving her neighbors.
As women gathered, trust grew. Stories were shared. Relationships formed. Through that faithful presence, Nora discovered her calling and began discipling others.
Today, the women she discipled visit families each week, praying with neighbors, sharing their testimonies, and continuing the work of making disciples who make disciples.
This is not an isolated story. It is evidence of a model that works.
What Is Expanding Inside the Camps
Early Childhood Education
A safe foundation for children while building trust with families.
English and Computer Training
Tools that open doors to education, employment, and stability.
Music Programs A source of belonging and hope for young people vulnerable to despair.
These are not programs designed for speed or scale. They are built for presence, trust, and long-term Gospel influence.
Because vocational training is bearing fruit, new initiatives are now launching inside Iraq’s refugee camps to extend opportunity, strengthen discipleship, and serve the next generation.
