My husband and I just arrived from Syria this week. Our country has continued to deteriorate dramatically as the war rages on. We lived in Aleppo where our home was destroyed by bombings from the Assad regime. We fled to a suburb of Damascus that was allegedly liberated by the rebels.
When we arrived we found it was under the control of Islamist extremists. Honestly it was worse than Aleppo. They actually beheaded people right there in public. Women were taken to a secret place in the town, and raped repeatedly for several days, before being released and other women brought in.
I am recently married and two months pregnant. My husband and I chose to flee Syria and now live as refugees here in Kurdistan. We are starting a new life and hope our baby will never suffer what we have experienced.
