Escaping Syria

I am a single woman who was living in a suburb of Damascus. Two weeks ago our neighborhood was shelled by both the Regime and FSA. My house was destroyed in the bombing. One of my cousins stayed inside the home, and when the bombs hit, my house collapsed on her. We could not find her body in the rubble.

There was nothing left of my home, my life, so I chose to flee the country immediately. As I left our neighborhood I saw my neighbors and their children, dead in their yards and the street. It was a horrible sight.

I fled to the border and paid $400 for someone to smuggle me out of Syria and into a refugee camp. We snuck through the barbed wire fence at the border and then hiked through the night across fields. Finally we came to a road, and my handler pointed me in the correct direction.

Thankfully I am now safe in this camp, and I fled just before the chemical attacks, but I have no idea if my family is alive or dead.
