FOUNDER’S DAY | APRIL 8, 2026

April 8 is the birthday of our founder, Dr. Terry Law. Each year on Founder’s Day, we pause to honor the man whose faith and obedience built what World Compassion is today.

Terry Law did not like being told something couldn’t be done. If someone said it was impossible, it usually meant it was about to happen. At its core, that was not stubbornness — it was faith. A deep, unshakeable trust that with God, the impossible is simply the next assignment.

During a season when Bibles were scarce and the Chinese church was growing rapidly, Terry and his longtime friend and colleague Joel Vesanen traveled deep into southern China to verify that Bibles had reached their destination. Just as their meeting ended, word came that the secret police were on their way.

Without hesitation, they stood up and left the room — no goodbyes, no explanation. They rode the elevator down in silence, uncertain what waited in the lobby below. When the doors opened, more than ten police officers stood between them and the exit.

Terry quietly said: “Just casually walk through them.”

They did. They walked straight through the group, exited the hotel, got into their car, and drove away.

That was who he was. And that is the spirit, DNA, and culture of World Compassion today.

This Founder’s Day, we are not pausing to look back. We are accelerating.

Strengthening Chinese church leaders on the frontlines of the Gospel.

Pastors across China are leading house churches under increasing government pressure — while carrying the weight of ministry on their families. In just a few weeks, we are gathering 50 of these leaders.

You can help make it possible.

Real Leaders.
Real Pressure.
Real Families.

Pastors across China are leading house churches under one of the most sustained crackdowns on independent Christianity in recent memory.

In Xi’an, a growing house church was raided without warning. Three pastors were arrested and remain imprisoned. An eight-year-old child watched his father beaten and his family placed in handcuffs. His teacher says he rarely smiles anymore.

This is not a distant headline. This is part of the leadership network we serve.

Under China’s ongoing “Sinicization” campaign, authorities have removed crosses, installed facial recognition cameras in sanctuaries, rewritten sermons to align with state ideology, and shuttered congregations that refuse compliance.

“Be steadfast, immovable, always abounding in the work of the Lord.” — 1 Corinthians 15:58

When a pastor carries pressure alone, the church feels it. When a marriage weakens, a congregation weakens. When a leader burns out, the work slows.

These are not isolated struggles.
They are the realities on the frontline of the Church in China.

“The future of the Church in China is shaped in rooms like this.”
— Jason Law, President, World Compassion

Two Urgent Needs.
One Strategic Moment.

Last year’s China leadership conference multiplied discipleship across the country. From the leaders who attended, more than 2,000 new ABC students were enrolled. The hunger is real. The opportunity is immediate. Right now, we are gathering again — and 2,000 additional students are waiting to begin.

China Leadership Conference

Goal: $75,000 Leaders Gathering: 50 pastors and church leaders

Cost per leader: $1,500

Your gift provides: Secure meeting locations, travel and logistics, teaching materials, translation and resources, ongoing follow-up support.

Story: Last year, when we asked leaders what the Church needed most, the overwhelming answer was not strategy or growth — it was family.

  • Leaders are weary.
  • Marriages are strained.
  • Children are growing up under pressure.

This gathering exists to strengthen the people who carry the Church.

ABC Discipleship Expansion

Goal: $100,000

Students waiting: 2,000

Cost per student: $50

Your gift provides: Curriculum materials, ongoing staff support, translation and distribution, training oversight, follow-up mentoring.

Story: The ABC Bible and Leadership Curriculum was born when access to teaching materials was limited and literacy levels varied widely. Today, that same model continues to equip leaders across China. When one leader is trained, entire house churches are impacted.

For 57 years, World Compassion has refused to retreat from the Church in China. Founded by Terry Law and now led by Jason Law, we exist to serve, equip, and empower indigenous leaders — because when leaders are strong, churches endure.

Every gift — large or small — strengthens leaders, families, and churches across China for generations to come.
